The Skinny on Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are thin, pliable disks of specially made plastics. They adhere to the eye with light suction and correct vision to normal or near-normal levels. Type of lenses includes soft lenses, silicone hydrogel lenses, gas permeable lenses, hybrid contact lenses, and PMMA, or polymethyl methacrylate lenses.  Dr. Michael Fauria and Dr. Susan Pirrone can help you decide which type of lens is right for your specific condition.

Warm Springs Contact Lens Lineup

At Warm Springs Optometric, we carry one of the largest selections of lenses in the Fremont area. We offer the following: soft lenses, daily wear, toric, gas permeable, and for Myopia control therapy we offer Ortho-k lenses. Whatever your vision care needs, we've got your back. We also offer lenses for atypical eye conditions such as keratoconus and astigmatism.

What To Expect During Your Contact Lens Fitting

Before the Doctor begins the fitting, they will inquire whether you wish to get clear contacts or if you might wish to alter the color of your eyes. Once you've decided this, the physician will ask whether you intend to use daily-wear contacts lenses or if you wish to wear them long term. If you suffer from presbyopia, the Doctor will often choose bi-focal lenses for you.

The second step is the fitting. First, a keratometer will be used to measure the curvature of your eye. This is important because lenses with the wrong curvature can cause discomfort and can even damage your eyes. Once this is complete the optometrist can choose lenses that contain the correct curvature for your eyes,

Corneal Topography is another technique used to measure the surface of the eye and to detect defects in the cornea. Afterward, pupil size is marked using a small ruler called a pupil gage. Finally, the selected lenses are inserted into your eyes. The Doctor will ascertain the comfort of the lenses, the level of vision improvement, and how you tolerate the lenses in your eyes.
